How did 3 of these get made let alone 7 (and counting)? I mean I know I watched it out of its time element but that was the suckiest bunch of suck that ever sucked. Some of these movies are good...this one is not. Wow.

I thought the chase at the end was enjoyable. If you shut off your brain, it’s not awful.

When these movies came out, it was a thing. A big thing. Car intake purchases for cars which had no business of being upgraded were through the roof.

The plot lines for 2F2F and Tokyo Drift all F&F movies might be the least coherent stories ever written. But racecar...

If you’re rating the cinematic value, yea they’re all real bad. Otherwise I think they are all great as far as corny car movies go. Honestly 2 Fast might be my favorite one. Tyrese is hysterical.

What are you talking about? The first two movies were actually good. Tokyo Drift is literally one of my favorite movies. And then the rest are total trash but I still enjoy them. But the original two movies are definitely good movies in their own regard. Before the Rock and crazy bank heists.

There were a lot of things I didn’t like about it. Even the car stuff was stupid. Hit the nitrous button (hey looks like they all got their “No2" stickers at the same place) and your manifold pressure goes up? then you are still struggling to push 120 from a nitroused evo? I mean it was like it was written and filmed by someone who had read about cars but had never been in one.

Yea you’re not wrong. I lost all hope that there would be any realism in the FF series after the passengers side foot well fell out as a result of too much N20 in the first one lol. However there aren’t many “car” movies that aren’t terribly hokey in at least some respects, so I’ll take whatever we can get.
When I have a hankering for real things, I’ll watch a documentary about cars.

In all honesty, production values only started to rise with and after “Tokyo Drift”.
But yeah, the first three is a hot mess, agreed.

My unpopular opinion: I would rather watch re-runs of I Dream of Jeannie than watch any of the F&F movies. I love cars and fast cars too but those movies just flat out suck and hurt brain when watching. My lower limit is gone in 60 seconds, I can just tolerate that movie.

I liked Tokyo drift (once you get to Japan) because Han is just so damn likable. Other than that these movies (as I’ve seen them so far) take a back seat to youtube videos about hollow earth.

I like Tokyo Drift because it was genuinely a fun car movie. It somewhat accurately dipped into the car culture of Japan without making it have the huge ego of the other movies. And the plot didn’t try to be something it wasn’t, it was dead simple.
The one thing I liked about 2 Fast was the scene where ALL THE CARS exit the warehouse...because that looked really fun seeing so many different makes, models, and modification tastes rolling in one huge group.

2F2F felt like they just wanted to have a good time and make a fun movie. Which is fine.
But it feels kinda out of place after the more serious tone of the first movie.

How did 3 of these get made let alone 7 (and counting)?
The first one was very successful, and cheap to make, so the studio wanted a sequel. But Vin Diesel didn’t want to, because he wanted to do XXX and Chronicles of Riddick, so 2F2F became “Paul Walker goes to Miami and meets a whole new group of people.”
Which still made decent money, but nobody wanted to be involved for a third movie, so the studio came up with Tokyo Drift as a whole new take on the idea of F&F. But at the very end they did a little throwaway Vin Diesel cameo to tie it back in to the main franchise.
Tokyo Drift was sorta kinda successful but people got all jazzed up about that Vin Diesel cameo, and the rest of the original cast realized their post-F&F careers weren’t exactly going anywhere great, so they all came crawling back for 4, which was a huge success and every once since 4 has gotten bigger, louder, more expensive, and more profitable.
With that Vin Diesel cameo at the end of Tokyo Drift, eventually they got around to integrating it into the main plot line. The chronology of F&F, it goes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 3 are basically at the same time on different continents, then the end of 6 catches up to 3 and 7 follows from there.
(In reality, there are a bunch of cars in 4/5/6 that came out well after 3 was made but F&F doesn’t exactly worry about those sorts of details.)

Yeah I recant what I said about the first one. The plot is actually pretty solid, it just gets side tracked with the Johnny Tran arc.

I think from a movie stand point 5 is the best but Tokyo Drift will always be my favorite.

TBH the first 3 were pretty terrible. 4 and 5 was where it started to get good; 5 was the first I saw in theatres and quite memorable because of the BB R34 (even though it was just a skin over a tube chassis car).
At some point, the cars get decent and you just focus on those instead.

Haha you are probably better off with not seeing the rest. But if you enjoy terrible movies (I actually really like bad movies) then go for it. They are fun and a good amount of action but not good movies. I will have to rewatch the 2nd one, because I tend to mix up scenes from the first two movies. In my head, I might just remember the good stuff from both movies and think of it as one 'classic'

This is my least-favorite of the series, by far. It was like the took all the ridiculous, unbelievable elements from the first one and made them the focus of this one. Way too cartoonish for my tastes. Tokyo Drift was better and then I thought 4-7 were each really good for simple action movies.

If you watch them all, here’s the order you should really watch them in:
1 - The Fast and the Furious
2 - 2 Fast 2 Furious
3 - Fast and Furious
4 - Fast Five
5 - Fast and Furious 6 (stop it as soon as the credits start to roll)
6 - Tokyo Drift
7 - Furious 7

DK didn’t shoot Han’s car causing it to explode. Han drifted through an intersection where his car then was t-boned by a MB S-class at high speed. The car then tumbled, caught fire and started leaking fuel. Once the fuel hit the fire, it exploded.
Now the drift race to sort things out was silly, but it was to determine who stayed/left since Tokyo wasn’t apparently big enough for both DK and Sean.

Lol okay maybe the bullets didn’t cause the car to explode but Han was still driving erratically to avoid getting shot. Same thing, one minor difference.
He would still be charged with attempted homicide with a firearm in a country with strong anti-gun laws.

It wasn’t until the 5th one that I really loved the series. I loved it when they stopped trying to be like “Street racers: the movie!” and instead went “This is a _____ type film with fast cars and an overflowing amount of badassitude”. Fast Five = Ocean’s 11 remixed with a hemi V8 and a turbocharger. Also, The Rock. .F&F 6 - action spy thriller as seen through the windshield of a jensen interceptor with an EDM soundtrack. Also, The Rock. Furious 7 = Revenge film crossed with Die Hard mixed with some “you can’t always go home” elements with toyota supras gently idling in the background of every scene. Also, The Rock.
I think what I’m getting at is every F&F film with the Rock is good. Sometimes you just need a second lunkhead to chew the scenery and bulge-rage. I described the fight between diesel and the Rock as “A 7-foot T-bone steak brawling with a 400 lb slab of ribs” and I loved every second of it.

Tokyo Drift (the iteration we got) wasn’t done up to the potential it could have been. Han couldn’t be in every scene to save every scene. I don’t know if 2 actors and 1 actress can just look too out of place in a film but 3 of them did.
So yeah, given the choice I’d pick any other fast & furious movie to watch than Tokyo Drift.
